What is this site?
An independent guide to fishing charters out of Gulf Shores, Alabama, written by Bryan Collins. It does not own boats, employ captains, run trips, or take bookings. It exists to explain how the fishery and the charter business work so that visitors can ask better questions before booking with an operator directly.
Who writes this guide
Fishing has been part of my life for more than 30 years.
I grew up fishing the waters of New York and the Northeast — party boats out of New Rochelle, fluke and bluefish on Long Island Sound, and more early mornings on the rail of boats like the Klondike than I could possibly count.
If you’ve spent any time on a party boat, you know the routine. You’re rigging before sunrise, drinking bad coffee while the boat clears the harbor, watching the mate work down the rail, and waiting for that first stop when everybody suddenly becomes very awake.
That’s the perspective I bring to Fishing Charters Gulf Shores.
I built this site because choosing a fishing charter shouldn’t require opening twenty browser tabs and trying to figure out which boat, trip length, fishing style, or booking option actually fits what you want to do.
I’m an angler first, not a charter captain and not a Gulf Shores boat operator. I know what fishermen want to know before they spend money on a trip: What are we fishing for? How long are we actually fishing? Is this a private charter or a shared boat? What should I bring? Is this a good trip for kids? How far offshore are we going? What happens if the weather turns?
That’s what this site is built to answer.
How I research Gulf Shores
My personal fishing experience comes primarily from the Northeast. For information specific to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach — seasons, regulations, charter details, departure locations, trip options and booking policies — we research the operators themselves and use primary and official sources whenever possible.

If something on the site is outdated or a local captain sees something we should correct, I want to hear about it. Good fishing information should get better when fishermen contribute to it.
What he does not claim is firsthand experience fishing these particular waters. A fabricated captain’s byline is the most common lie told by sites in this category, and the accurate version is more useful: a fisherman who researches this fishery properly, and says which parts are research.
What this site is not
It is not a charter company. Nobody here captains a boat, and no trip described on this site is a trip we run. It is not a booking platform either: the FareHarbor affiliate application was declined and will be resubmitted now that the site exists.
There is a gear section, and it is worth being exact about what it currently is. It lists the kinds of thing worth having on a boat here, grouped by the problem they solve. Every listing in it is a placeholder: none of them links anywhere, no affiliate programme is in place, and this site earns nothing from any of it today. If that changes, a real affiliate disclosure appears next to every product and in the terms in the same update that adds the first working link — the wording is driven by the data rather than by somebody remembering to change it.
What will not change is the order of things. The gear is explained on the pages that explain the problem, and several of those pages tell you the boat already provides the thing and you do not need to buy it.
It is also not a review site. There are no ratings, no star scores and no testimonials here, because there are none to report. Inventing them would be both dishonest and, in the United States, illegal.
How the content is written
Two categories of information appear on this site, and they are treated very differently.
Structural facts — how far offshore the productive bottom sits, why trip length determines range, which agencies set seasons, what inshore water lies behind the island, which species live on reef structure — are stable, checkable, and stated plainly.
Operator-specific and time-sensitive details — rates,
inclusions, dock times, this year's season dates, which boats work which
marinas — are not stated at all unless verified. Where a page would
naturally carry one, it carries a visible bracketed
SLOT marker instead. Those markers are deliberate. They
record exactly what still needs to be researched, and they are visible to
you as a reader rather than hidden in a backlog.

If something here is wrong, it should be fixed. Regulations change, marinas change hands, and general guidance goes stale. Corrections from people who fish or work these waters carry the most weight, for the reason set out above.
About the place
Gulf Shores sits on the Alabama coast in Baldwin County, on a barrier island with the Gulf of Mexico in front of it and a substantial system of bays behind. The charter fleet serving it works from marinas in Gulf Shores and neighbouring Orange Beach, which share the same access to the Gulf. That geography is the reason both offshore and inshore fishing are available here within a short drive of each other, and it shapes most of what is written on this site.
