    The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources publishes seasons, limits and closures. That is a different question from what is feeding, and the more important one to get right.

  • Weather and sea state

    Decides whether you go at all.

    Wind and sea state cancel offshore trips, not rain. Marine forecasts matter more to a fishing day here than any catch report.

Two different questions, constantly confused

What is biting and what is open are not the same, and only one of them has an authoritative answer. A species can be feeding hard and be entirely closed to harvest — red snapper above all, whose season is set annually rather than fixed.

Charter operators post their best days. That is not dishonesty, it is marketing, and it is worth reading with the bias in mind: a feed full of limits does not mean every trip that week filled a cooler. What the posts do tell you reliably is which species are being caught at all right now, which is the useful signal.

Who actually publishes a current report

Two sources publish weekly reports covering this stretch of coast by name, and both were checked and current when this page was last updated:
